Welcome About Me Diary Software Downloads About the Site

I am Chris Nauroth, a 28-year-old man, living and working in Seattle, WA. I'm happily married. So far, we have no children, but I'm sure that's in our future. (Of course, I don't know how far ahead in the future: 1 year or 5 years.) :-)

I'm originally from Scranton, PA. My mother still lives there, so I try to return home as often as I can. My closest friend is originally from Scranton too, but he recently moved to Atlanta. My father lives in Phoenixville, PA, so I also try to visit there.

Shortly before my wedding, I left Scranton to join my wife-to-be in Amherst, MA. (Technically, it was Belchertown, MA, but it's far less embarrassing to just tell people it was Amherst, which is only 15 minutes to the west.) Massachusetts leaves me with fond memories of colorful fall leaves, quaintly walkable downtowns in Amherst and Northampton, and Boston baked beans. Unfortunately, it also leaves me with memories of freezing cold, wicked snowstorms, and no work in software development for miles and miles. Every day, I had to commute to Hartford, CT, to work for St. Paul Travelers, developing insurance claim handling software. It was a good job, but unfortunately, the commute was 1 hour and 20 minutes each way. Massachusetts also gave me an introduction into the grand tradition of outdoor summer theatre in the form of the Hampshire Shakespesare Company. I spent 2 summers performing on an outdoor stage, and I also served as the company's webmaster for a time.

After some soul-searching, my wife and I decided to relocate. We arrived in Seattle, WA, in May, 2004, neither of us employed. Fortunately, it all worked out. I was hired for a contract position with Amazon.com. That position turned permanent after a few months.

In my 2 years at Amazon, I worked on some pretty cool stuff, most notably search pages and back-end transaction processing systems for ordering. As of June 26, 2006, I decided to move to another position. At this point, I'm a Software Engineer for Walt Disney Internet Group, working on web account registration and online ordering systems for Disney and the numerous companies that it owns.

Life has taught me to expect the unexpected, and I mean that in a good way. Growing up in the northeast, I never anticipated the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. I grew up with a fascination for computers, but I never thought I would have the opportunity to work with technology at such a massive scale. Most importantly, I never expected to meet a woman who would transform my life through marriage. I don't know what will be the next step in my journey, but when I discover it, I'll document it here.
